Manchester United are set to step up their effort to sign winger Arjen Robben.

United will be managed by Louis Van Gaal next season following the Dutchman’s appointment, with Van Gaal hoping to convince Robben to sign for the club at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Van Gaal will manage the Dutch in Brazil, before swiftly departing to United to take up his new post at Manchester United.

Sources at the club, and in the Guardian claim that United will table a bid of up to ÂŁ20 million for his services after the World Cup finals are over.

Robben, aged 30, enjoyed another superb campaign at Bayern Munich, as the superior Bayern notched the Bundesliga, and Cup double.

And it could become clearer in the next few weeks, as Van Gaal irons out his plans for the season ahead.

Robben almost signed for Manchester United in 2003 whilst at PSV Eindhovan, however, Chelsea won the battle for the then 19 year old starlet, who would go onto spend a further three years at Stamford Bridge, before signing for Real Madrid.
