Big price tag could put United off
Manchester United’s pursuit of Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy has taken a blow after the French side put a £55million price tag on the defender.
United see Mendy as a potential replacement for Luke Shaw, who seems set to leave Old Trafford this summer due to tensions between himself and Jose Mourinho.
The French international, Mendy, has had an impressive season in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
His energy and excellent delivery from the left has made him a target for several top clubs.
Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Shaw have all played at left-back for United this season and Mourinho is determined to make a signing in that position.
It is thought that Mourinho views Mendy as a ‘modern’ full-back which is what he is looking for in a signing in that position this summer.
Mendy is not the only Monaco player being courted by European clubs this summer, with Kylian Mbappe, Bernado Silva and Fabinho all subjects of interest from across the elite clubs on the continent.
