The Real Madrid man reportedly turned down the chance to join the Reds on loan in January

Mariano Diaz has today revealed that he turned down approaches from ten clubs to take him on loan – including one from Liverpool.

The Reds didn’t make a single signing throughout the winter transfer window but it appears that it might not be for want of trying.

Diaz has revealed that Jurgen Klopp’s side were one of a number of teams who all tried to sign him on loan in January, with several La Liga sides all desperate to snap him up on a short-term basis.

However, he decided to reject the approaches and stay at Real Madrid, despite the fact he is currently not a definite starter.

In fact, he is currently behind both Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata in the striker pecking order at the Bernabeu but he decided he would rather stay at the club and wait for his chances.

Called up to first-team

The 23-year old impressed Madrid chiefs with his performances in the reserve and youth team sides, so much so that he was called up to the first-team squad.

Now he is in the first-team squad, he is finding gametime a lot harder to come by and Real were willing to let him leave on loan to get some valuable experience.

But, he turned it down in favour of biding his time and waiting for his chances to play. When he has been given gametime so far, he has grabbed it with both hands, as he has bagged five goals in nine games, with one assist.

It’s an impressive record and now that Diaz has decided to stay at the club, he has chance to improve it even further with Real Madrid as the season goes on.
