Liverpool legend wants to see new left-back signed

Former-Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has been rather critical when discussing Alberto Moreno and he believes the club should be signing a new left-back to replace the Spaniard.

Moreno joined The Reds last summer after joining from La Liga side Sevilla, and despite starting his Premier League career in impressive fashion, he struggled in the latter stages of the campaign.

Interest in Left-Back

The 23-year-old is Liverpool‘s only recognised left-back, with Jose Enrique set to leave the club, and despite being linked with Lucas Digne from Paris Saint-Germain, it looks like Brendan Rodgers could be going into the new season with just one option at left-back.

Lawrenson, who has been speaking with the Liverpool Echo, believes his former-club need to be bringing in a new defender in order to replace Moreno.

The pundit also revealed his shock at hearing about FC Barcelona‘s interest in the full-back.

Lawrenson Critical

Lawrenson told the Liverpool Echo: “Liverpool need a new left-back. There were some rumours knocking around last week that Barcelona were sniffing around Alberto Moreno.

“I’d be surprised if they want to take the Spaniard, given how, since the New Year, he’s been really, really struggling for form.

“Moreno started the season well after coming in from Sevilla and scored that fine goal at White Hart Lane, but it all fell apart in the second half of the season.

“Worryingly, quite often he has looked a little boy lost in the big games.

“Moreno deserves another chance. But we need more competition in his position, because it’s clear Brendan Rodgers no longer has any real faith in Jose Enrique.”
