Midfielder believes United can still make top 4
Juan Mata believes that Manchester United can still quality for the Champions League this season.
United are currently 5th in the table and are in danger of not managing to qualify for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.
However, the gap to rivals Manchester City is only four points and with a game in hand, Mata is convinced the fixture list has given them a chance to sneak back into contention.
“We know that Manchester City and Arsenal have to face each other so maybe then we’ll have the chance,” Mata told the Manchester Evening News.
“But first we have to win our games and we are focused on that.
“If we don’t win, it’s useless.”
If United do have to cope with another season without Champions League football, it could see a mass exodus from the club.
However, Mata was quick to pour cold water on any talk that he could leave the club and was receptive to the idea of extending his contract which has two years left to run.
“I feel really good here,” Mata added.
“I have to say I am discovering more and more places in the city and I like it.
“The people have been good to me, they are warm people in Manchester.
“I feel happy here and in the city.”
