Chelsea vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Preview & Predictions

While most would expect Chelsea to see off the Israeli champions with ease, the recent poor form displayed by The Blues leaves food for thought.

Slavisa Jokanovic, formerly of Chelsea, oversaw wins over Hibernians, the Czechs of Viktoria Plzen and then, most impressively, the Swiss side Basel, to reach the group stages for the first time in 11 years.

José Mourinho, whose European campaign ended so disappointingly with the exit to PSG six months ago, is without a number of regulars due to injury including Pedro Rodríguez , Radamel Falcao and Thibaut Courtois.

Jose Mourinho has suggested changes will be made to usher in a ‘new dynamic.’ This could see under-performers John Terry, Diego Costa, Branislav Ivanović and Cesc Fàbregas dropped to the bench.

This is perhaps a more important game for Chelsea then it should of been, the pressure is mounting on Jose Mourinho and his team, anything less then three points tonight could really put the Portuguese on the brink.

You could argue that Mourinho is already feeling the pressure after another sensational outburst during his pre-match press conference, the ‘special one’ highlighted the fact that he is criticised far more than less successful managers at other clubs. He said “Why some managers can’t be in difficult situations after five, six, 10 years and I am the current champion of England?” he said. “Why should I be in trouble? Why? I think that’s a good question you don’t know how to answer.

“In our case you have to go back three months. Three months we were the best team in the country, the best manager, the players. So we’re not happy, but we know what we are.”

The Blues badly need a victory tonight, Chelsea fans will be hoping that they can get their season back on track with a convincing win against Tel-Aviv.
