Liverpool has gone up to 2nd in the Premier League today after beating Southampton 3-0 at St. Mary’s. Luis Suarez scored his first goal in six games to put The Reds 1-0 up in the first half, and Adam Lallana was denied an equaliser by the post before Raheeem Sterling made it 2-0. In the end, a comfortable victory for Liverpool was topped off with a late Steven Gerrard penalty after Luis Suarez was fouled by Jose Fonte.

Howvever, 3-0 doesn’t tell the complete story, as Southampton caused Liverpool some major problems in the first half, trying to expose the recent shaky defense that’s been seen of late. After the game, captain and goalscorer Steven Gerrard spoke to SkySports

“We said at the beginning of the season that we wanted to be in the title race with ten games to go and we are. It’s important to stay calm and take every game as it comes.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers also spoke after the match, and again tried to play down his team’s title chances,

“Tactically the players were great. We got three goals and in the end could have had five or six. The performance was up there with when we beat Arsenal 5-1. This is a really difficult place to come, it was an outstanding all-round team performance.”

“How many of the next 10 games do we need to win? I don’t know, I’m not going to give you an answer, all I want to do is sit back and enjoy watching the team play.”

Liverpool are now second and just 4 points behind leaders Chelsea, though Manchester City do have two games in hand over them, siting two points behind.
