Micah Richards not happy with City’s defending

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has admitted that the side must improve defensively if they want to win their second Premier League title.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are having no problem in the scoring department, as they have netted 22 times in their last four home matches, however, on Wednesday night against Viktoria Plzen, they let in two sloppy goals in their comfortable 4-2 victory.

In recent seasons, City have been solid as a rock at the back and have in fact conceded the least amount of goals in the past three seasons.

However, with captain and influencial figure, Vincent Kompany, out injured, there seems to be something missing in the back-line, and right-back Richards admits that there must be an improvement.

“We are playing some great stuff – at the weekend against Tottenham (a 6-0 top-flight home win on Sunday) we were outstanding.

“But we have just got to sort out the goals against now.

“We want more clean sheets. In the last three years we have had the best defence.

“We have been a bit shaky this season but hopefully we can put that right now.”
