Michael Essien has weighed in on the Romelu Lukaku saga

And the former Blues believe the Everton striker who has been heavily linked to Chelsea would thrive at Manchester United

It’s not the only transfer saga the two Premier League heavyweights are rumoured to be embroiled in, both clubs are reported to be chasing Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata, with United being tipped to land him after the Madrid star hinted about a move to Old Trafford

Other Chelsea FC News outlets on the other hand, are reporting Lukaku to Chelsea is pretty much a done deal, but Essien says the striker and Mourinho would work well:

“In general it was good and normal [Essien’s relationship with Jose Mourinho]. We all had different relationships with Jose and mine, as everyone knows, is like a father and son.

“I won’t say Romelu’s relationship with Jose was the same as mine but, in general, it was normal and they respected each other.

“If Jose wants him and he wants to play for Jose then yes they can work together.

“They both have to want to work with each other for that to happen and if the desire is there then yes they can work together.” (Manchester Evening News)
