Keeper determined to prove his worth

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is determined to prove that he is worthy of starting in the team ahead of Loris Karius.

The Belgian has been dropped to the substitutes bench over the recent weeks, with Karius being given a chance after arriving from Mainz in the summer.

Mignolet hasn’t been the most solid keeper for Liverpool since arriving in 2013, but remains determined to fight for his chance to regain the No.1 spot after early season disappointment.

In a bid to convince Klopp to reinstate him, Mignolet took to Twitter to show his hard work with the caption: ‘Some say bench warming, I say bench pressing!’

Despite Mignolet’s confidence, Klopp was quick to praise Karius depsite his nervous performance against Manchester United on Monday.

‘It has been a very good start (for Karius),’ Klopp said.

‘We watched him for a long time, especially the last two years in the Bundesliga. He was outstanding.

‘He is still a young boy but this is something different. The Premier League is a different style of play.

‘I feel quite comfortable. It is not perfect. He can improve. As a keeper you take a risk sometimes because the ball is bouncing.’

Karius is set to start again this weekend when Liverpool face West Brom at Anfield. This game could potentially prove to be a big test for the German, with the Baggies posing a huge threat from set-pieces.
