The midfielder will remain at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has blocked the sale of John Mikel Obi, delivering a blow to potential suitors in China, Turkey and the Middle East.

The 28-year-old Nigerian international has been linked with moves to the Chinese Super League, and Turkish top-flight, and wants to leave Chelsea this summer – having made just six appearances for the title-winners last season.

However, despite his desire to leave Stamford Bridge, Mikel has been informed that he remains part of Jose Mourinho‘s plans in West London.

“There’s absolutely no truth to reports linking Mikel with a move to Turkey or any Chinese club for that matter,” a source close to the talks told BBC Sport.

“Only two clubs from the UAE showed strong interest last month but they could not meet his club’s valuation.

“Mikel has a contract with Chelsea until 2017, as things stand he will not be leaving the club this transfer window as speculated.”

Mkel, who signed from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo in 2006, has dropped down the pecking order in recent seasons, and his future has been cast into further doubt, following the emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the spine of the Blues midfield.

No Turkish Delight for Mikel

Turkish giants Fenerbahce are reportedly to be one of Mikel’s admirers, but have pulled the plug on any deal, due to the demands of Chelsea, and the player.

Chelsea will only listen to offers around ÂŁ25m for Mikel’s services.

Fener’s Club President, Aziz Yildirim has told the local media they are unable to financially Chelsea’s valuation of the player.

“Chelsea want €15 million and Mikel asked for €5 million a season over four years. We are talking €35 million,” Yildirim told reporters at their Topuk Yayla training ground.

“This definitely is not something we can pursue.”

The Istanbul side have already confirmed the marquee signing of Dutch international Robin Van Persie from Manchester United.
