Mourinho: Chelsea manager could have been sacked

Jose Mourinho may have been sacked if his side had lost in mid-week

According to the Express, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could have parted company with the Portugese coach had Chelsea lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv this week.

Prior to their Champion’s League group match, Chelsea had won just one of their five Premier League matches, making their worst start since the 1986-87 season.

On the night, the Blues enjoyed a fairly comfortable outing, securing a 4-0 victory against the Israel outfit.

Yesterday, they defeated Arsenal 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, who were reduced to nine men by the end of the match.

Victory over the Gunners will go a long way to relieving some of the pressure on Mourinho and the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto coach will be looking to kick on from here.

A case of what if?

However, we may well have seen a different man at the helm according to the Express, who claim a well-placed source informed them that Abramovich wasn’t afraid to sack Mourinho if Chelsea lost to their European opponents.

The Chelsea boss has already come under intense scrutiny for the way he has treated his medical staff.

He recently cricitized team doctor Eva Carneiro along with physio Jon Fearn for leaving his side with nine men against Swansea by treating Eden Hazard.
