Chelsea boss claims he felt he needed them before the start of his first season back
Jose Mourinho has revealed the moment that he knew he needed to sign Costa and Fabregas, according to the Express.
The Special One claimed he felt the squad needed those two in it just before the start of the 2014/15 season. In the end he managed to complete the signings of the two for a combined total of £60m.
Both players have done just as well as expected at Stamford Bridge, with Costa bagging 19 goals in the Premier League and Cesc Fabregas having an outstanding year with some superb performances.
Mourinho told Football Focus: “I felt before the start of my first season I needed them. We need to do it step by step. We need to give the squad more options.
“Our problems arrived when it was difficult to lose the title. If we lost Costa, Oscar and Ramires at end of December, we would have been in real trouble.”
