Referee cheif Mike Riley has refused a meeting face-to-face with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho’s sarcastic comments after Chelsea’s loss to Sunderland on Saturday evening left no doubt about his opinions on the standard of refereeing in the Premier League, he ‘congratulated’ Mike Dean after he awarded an 82nd minute penalty against Chelsea right-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
It is claimed that Mourinho tried to set up a face-to-face meeting with the officials and Mike Riley in order to discuss his concerns. However, his request for talks were turned down.
The paper quotes a spokesman for refs’ body Professional Game Match Officials Limited: ‘We have regular dialogue with clubs throughout the season.
‘However, the PGMOL board took the decision that this proposed meeting was too near the end of the season.’
