Mourinho wants Terry to stay

Jose Mourinho is confident that Chelsea captain John Terry will sign a new deal at the club and finish his career at Stamford Bridge.

When asked about the skipper’s contract, which runs out in June, he said, “The manager wants him to stay; the club know I want him to stay, the club want him to stay, he wants to stay, so normally he is staying.”

Chelsea are thought to have offered a one-year deal on reduced wages, but Terry wants more. The 3-0 home win against Stoke on Saturday was just the response Mourinho wanted after a difficult week for The Blues, including crucial losses to Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.

“At home we feel more comfortable,” said Mourinho, “but in the Premier League we play 19 matches at home and 19 away.”

“If I go to a wedding I don’t go in jeans. If I leave my house for a walk in Hyde Park, I don’t go in a smoking (jacket).

“So when you go to play against Crystal Palace at Crystal Palace, you know the way you have to go.These boys, they have to be able to go away from home and to adapt to the situation. This takes time, let’s go step by step.”

“In football to be champions and to win titles you have to play in the sun, in the rain, in the cold, in the hot, small pitches, big pitches, direct football, possession football. You have to adapt.”
