Napoli President: ‘Higuain was NEVER for sale’

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis says he never considered selling star striker Gonzalo Higuain, despite several Premier League sides offering ‘massive money’.

Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United were heavily interested in the 27-year-old after a run of impressive form – scoring 29 goals in 56 games in all competitions for the Naples club last campaign.

The Italian giants didn’t manage to secure Champions League qualification after only finishing fifth in the Serie A table last term, and it was speculated that the Argentina international could leave the club because of this reason.

However, Napoli President De Luarentiis is adamant that he never thought about selling the former Real Madrid star and slammed a £66million buy-out clause in his contract to put off pursuers.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, De Laurentiis said: I never, ever considered selling Higuain.

“It wasn’t by chance that I put a very high clause in his contract, which makes it difficult to sustain for any buyer.” he added.
