Canaries looking to strengthen with Premier League experience

Stoke City have rejected Norwich City’s £1.5 million bid for their versatile forward Jonathan Walters.

The Republic of Ireland international only has one year left on his current deal at the Britannia Stadium, something Norwich may have felt could work in their favour when making the bid.

Despite signing several attacking options this summer including Xherdan Shaqiri, the Potters’ boss Mark Hughes still sees the 31-year old as an integral part of his plans.

Walters has started both of Stoke’s Premier League games so far this season, the 1-0 home loss to Liverpool on the opening weekend and the 2-2 draw away at Tottenham Hotspur.

Negotiations

It remains to be seen whether or not the Norwich manager Alex Neil will return with an improved second bid for the attacker. It will be interesting to see if the Scotsman continues his pursuit for Walters.

On the other hand, the interest and bid from Norwich could force Stoke’s hand if they want keep the ex-Ipswich Town man. Contract talks between the player and the club could open up in order to extend Walters’ stay in Staffordshire.

Stoke travel to Norwich’s Carrow Road this Saturday as the two sides meet in the Premier League.
