Ochoa set for Merseyside switch

World Cup star Guillermo Ochoa is set for a £3 million January move to Liverpool from La Liga side Malaga.

The Mexican shot stopper impressed in Brazil during the summer, and being a free agent, caught the eye of many major European clubs. After his Ajaccio contract expired, he left for Spanish club Malaga, hoping to take the number one shirt vacated by Willy Caballero, but all has not gone to plan.

The 29 year-old has been left to play second fiddle to Carlos Kameni and has found himself available for a move in the winter transfer window. The Reds are thought to be interested in his services and with the current goalkeeper situation at the club, it looks a good prospect for the 66 times capped international.

Simon Mignolet’s shaky form saw him dropped from Sunday’s derby against Manchester United, and his deputy Brad Jones also failed to impress in the 3-0 loss. With Brendan Rodgers stating Mignolet has been dropped for the foreseeable future, a switch to Anfield may reap rewards for Ochoa.

However, whether Rodgers is prepared to let his £9 million signing rot on the bench for the remainder of his contract is another question.
