Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has told manager Arsene Wenger to sign a striker for the club as currently there is only two recognised forwards at the club in Giroud and Lukas Podolski.

The Gunners were meant to be busy this summer after it was revealed that they have up to ÂŁ70million to spend this summer on new players and they were even able to compete financially with the big-time spenders, but as of yet, they have only signed Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer.

Arsene Wenger has been after the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez, but so far, he has failed in all three pursuits.

Giroud, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, scored during Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday and in an interview he revealed that the club desperately need a striker to help the goal tally for this season.

‘In my opinion, it’s necessary for the club to recruit another striker.

‘Obviously, I think about it a little bit. It may change the play one day, especially if it’s a high profile signing.

‘It’s useless lamenting this though. I know what I have to do and what I’m capable of. I’m focusing on me and my work. The coach is counting on me, so I don’t think too much.’
