The Argentina international says he has discussed his future with Valencia’s president

Nicolas Otamendi could leave the La Liga giants just one year after signing from Porto.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has acknowledged his defence as a key area which needs strengthening and has reportedly identified Otamendi as a priority target.

United think the centre-back is worth around ÂŁ25million however Valencia will not sanction any move for Otamendi unless his ÂŁ35million buy-out clause is triggered.

Valencia’s main man

The ex-Porto player, who is currently on Copa America duty, made 38 appearances last season and played an important role in helping Valencia finish 4th and secure Champions League football.

Real Madrid could also be another potential destination for the Valencia defender who is confident his agent will do the right thing.

“I’ve told my agent that my head is here and I’m leaving it in his hands, to do what he needs to do” said Otamendi.

Real Madrid interest

Real coach Rafael Benitez is searching for Pepe’s successor and reports in Spain claim the former Napoli coach thinks Otamendi would fit the bill.

Benitez does already have a ready-made centre-back in Raphael Varane but it remains to be seen whether he will still be at the Bernabeu next season.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in the France international and want the defender as part of any deal which would see David De Gea move to the La Liga giants.

Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are two more Premier League stars that could move to Real Madrid with Benitez believed to admire the Chelsea duo.
