The defender wants to open talks over a new deal with the Hammers, despite interest from Man United.

Reece Oxford wants to open fresh contract talks with West Ham, according to reports today.

The defender is currently on the radar of Man United, with new boss Jose Mourinho keeping a close eye on the youngster since taking the hot seat at Old Trafford. He is believed to be a fan of the 17-year old and would like to bring him to the club.

However, it won’t be easy to do that, as West Ham are desperate to keep hold of their promising young talent. So much so that they have slapped a hefty ÂŁ15m price tag on the Englishman.

It’s a large price over the youngster’s head but the Hammers stand by it, as they look to keep hold of all their best players in a bid to once again challenge at the right end of the Premier League table and battle in Europe.

Oxford featured just 12 times for West Ham last year but it was evident that the potential was there in the youngster and the Hammers believe they need to keep hold of him at all costs. He has featured just once so far this season in the Europa League.

Oxford wants a better deal

Oxford himself seems keen to stay with the Hammers, as he is believed to be eager to open new contract talks with the club. But, talks in the past over a new deal have been quite far apart in terms of what the player wants and what they are offering, with the centre-back feeling he is deserving of a new deal that is improved on his current contract.

No talks are currently taking place and there are no signs that any will take place yet, with two years still to go on the youngster’s current agreement at West Ham.

With Man United circling round though and with the player himself keen to open talks over a new deal, the club may decide to put a new deal on the table soon to ward off any interest from the Red Devils.
