Patrice Evra admits he mithered Paul Pogba to return to Manchester United

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has revealed how and why he mithered Paul Pogba to go back to Old Trafford in the last summer transfer window.

Pogba, who is a Red Devils Academy product, completed a world record £89million switch to re-sign for his former club after four fine seasons with Italian giants Juventus.

United boss Jose Mourinho is believed to be the main pulling power in Pogba’s decision but Evra, his ex-Juve teammate, has recently revealed his own efforts to persuade him to go back.

“I told him that if he was going to leave then he should join United,” the Marseille left-back told FourFourTwo.

“Juve is a great club and I would have been happy if he’d stayed with us, but I said Man United is a massive opportunity for him.”

Frenchman Pogba has come under some scrutiny this season, with United fifth placed in the Premier League standings, but Evra has credited the box-to-box midfielder.

“Paul is like a brother to me and I want the best for him,” Evra added.

“I will kill people who want to take advantage of him or try to do something bad – Paul’s got a really good heart.

“If he has a bad game, people criticise him for what he does on social media or his haircuts, but he won’t change.

“I don’t want his image coming before his football, and although I’m not worried that will happen, I’m scared other people hope it does so they can criticise him like they did with David Beckham.”
