Premier League predictions this week – Game-week 3

Our lead writers take on another writer in this week’s prediction article. Ahead of another busy weekend in the Premier League, SillySeason are ready to make their predictions and look into the fixtures that take place.

Lead writer Alex Batt takes on another writer this weekend with Tom Sutton making his predictions for the eleven games taking place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Alex lost the prediction article last week against Joseph Richardson, so he will be hoping he can improve this time around when he takes on Tom.

So time to look into this weekend’s Premier League games and time for Alex and Tom to make their predictions.

Premier League Saturday’s Match Predictions

Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Alex Says: A solid start for United with two wins, but they are yet to impress me. However, they love playing Newcastle United and I think they’ll turn on the style this weekend. Wayne Rooney always scores against The Magpies too. Match Prediction: 3-0

Tom Says: It’s been a good start to the season for the Red Devils – two wins from two league games, no goals conceded and have one foot in the Champions League group stages. Despite the start, they haven’t looked particularly impressive but I expect them to ease to victory against Newcastle. Wayne Rooney needs a good performance and a goal to get his season going and that’s what I expect on Saturday. Match Prediction: 3-0

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa

Alex Says: Tricky game to predict this. Both on three points with one win and one loss, but I think the home fans will push Palace over the line against Tim Sherwood‘s men. Palace and Villa both unlucky to lose against Arsenal and United last weekend. Match Prediction: 1-0

Tom Says: Both sides won on the opening day of the season but were beaten last weekend by Arsenal and United respectively. Palace having home advantage could be key but I don’t see them running away with the game. I think Villa will take a while to adjust their best team and will be beaten narrowly at Selhurst Park. Match Prediction 1-0

Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Alex Says: Dream start for Leicester City. Thrashing Sunderland and then surprising West Ham United. As for Spurs, awful start with a loss to United and throwing away a 2-0 lead at home to Stoke. Think this game could end in a draw. Match Prediction: 2-2

Tom Says: Two wins from two for The Tinkerman’s Leicester City which has seen them maintain their form which kept them up at the end of last season. However, I think Spurs will take all three points this weekend, Harry Kane scored a hat-rick against the Foxes last season and if he plays I fancy him to score again. Match Prediction 1-2

Norwich City vs Stoke City

Alex Says: Another really tricky game to predict this. Great away win for Norwich City last weekend, whilst Stoke did well to rescue a point against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Sitting on the fence here and saying a score draw. Match Prediction: 1-1

Tom Says: Norwich were my pick to do the best out of the promoted sides and have made a fairly good start to the season. Unfortunate to lose against Palace on week one but were worthy winners at Sunderland last weekend. Stoke fought back well at Spurs and I predict another draw for The Potters. Match Prediction: 1-1

Sunderland vs Swansea City

Alex Says: I rarely back away wins to be honest, but this one just has to be. Solid start from Swansea City with four points from two games. Whereas Sunderland have been woeful. Match Prediction: 0-2

Tom Says: Two contrasting teams – another abysmal start to a season for Sunderland while Swansea continue to impress. Garry Monk guided his team to an opening day draw with champions Chelsea, followed by a solid win against Newcastle. Sunderland’s defensive crisis continues but I feel they must put that right this weekend or the manager could be off. Match Prediction: 1-1

West Ham United vs AFC Bournemouth

Alex Says: West Ham were shocked last weekend at Upton Park, but I am backing them to pick up their first home win this weekend against newly-promoted Bournemouth. Will be tight though as Eddie Howe‘s men don’t give over easily. Match Prediction: 2-1

Tom Says: A hard introduction to Premier League life for Bournemouth, two defeats from two and not a goal scored. However, they can take pride in their performances and were unfortunate against Liverpool, having two offside decisions go against them. West Ham couldn’t follow up their master class at The Emirates and will be without first-choice keeper Adrian. I predict Matt Ritchie to get Bournemouth’s first goal but West Ham to narrowly win. Match Prediction: 2-1

Premier League Sunday’s Match Predictions

West Brom vs Chelsea

Alex Says: Chelsea don’t like going to The Hawthorns and after the start of the season they’ve had, this game could be tricky for them. Tony Pulis will have learnt from the Manchester City thrashing and go more defensive. I reckon WBA could take a point here. Match Prediction: 1-1

Tom Says: It’s been a nightmare start for Chelsea in a number of ways. Last weekend’s humbling defeat to title rivals City could be exactly what Mourinho’s men need to kick-start their season. West Brom are traditionally hard to break down under Tony Pulis but I think Chelsea will need a response. Match Prediction: 0-2

Everton vs Manchester City

Alex Says: Another very hard game to predict. Everton shocked everyone by thrashing Southampton, whilst City have been untouchable. Going to have to back City, but only just. Match Prediction: 0-1

Tom Says: This game is usually a cracker and I think Sunday won’t disappoint. City have goals from all over the field and should make it three wins from three. Everton will always put up a strong fight and England fans will be relishing Ross Barkley’s start to the season. I fancy Raheem Sterling to get his first goal for City on his return to Merseyside. Match Prediction: 2-3

Watford vs Southampton

Alex Says: Southampton will want to kickstart their season with a win soon and I reckon they may get it here at Vicarage Road. Watford have had a solid start however with two draws so it will be tight once again. Match Prediction: 1-2

Tom Says: Both sides are still looking for the first win of the season and I think Saints will just edge this one. Watford have looked quite composed in the Premier League so far with two draws but I think Southampton’s fire power up front will decide this game. Troy Deeney and Graziano Pelle to both score. Match Prediction: 1-3

Premier League Monday’s Match Prediction

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Alex Says: Arsenal picked up a vital win against Crystal Palace on Sunday, whilst Liverpool picked up their second win of the season on Monday. However, The Reds struggle at the Emirates Stadium usually and I’m backing The Gunners to beat them again. Match Prediction: 3-2

Tom Says: This is probably the standout fixture from the Premier League this weekend. Liverpool have made a solid start to the season with back-to-back 1-0 victories but I think Arsenal will bring them back down to earth this weekend. Joe Gomez could be in for a very busy afternoon trying to cope with Alexis Sanchez. Match Prediction: 2-0

So there are the picks the writers have made.

Who will get most correct this week?
