Premier League Free Agents XI

What team could you make from all the free agents?

The majority of Premier League clubs revealed who they have chosen to release this Summer or who has chosen to leave the club after letting their contracts run down.

If we had done this article a few months ago, we could of had a midfield containing Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, with Danny Ings and James Milner also featuring in the squad, but with all four of them already having new clubs, they cannot be included in the team.

However, there are still some decent players available for free and we have put together an XI of the best possible players available for free after leaving their respective Premier League clubs.

Whether it’s by their own choice or by the club’s choice, several players have been left without a club this Summer, and here is a starting XI we have put together from the freebies.

Goalkeeper – Jussi Jaaskelainen

A brilliant goalkeeper during his Bolton Wanderers days, the veteran can certainly have a place in our team after being released by West Ham United. He’s only 40, that’s nothing for a goalkeeper.

Right-Back – Glen Johnson

Once labelled the best right-back in the Premier League, Glen Johnson deserves a spot in our team. Released by Liverpool after falling down the pecking order, the England defender will be searching for a new club with teams in Italy reportedly keen.

Centre-Back – Ron Vlaar

What a free agent this is! Although he’s struggled at Villa Park, Vlaar put was superb for Netherlands in the World Cup last Summer and will certainly attract interest from clubs after refusing to extend his stay in the Midlands. Maybe Louis Van Gaal will be calling?

Centre-Back – Michah Richards

I know he’s technically a right-back, but the former-Manchester City star did spend some time at centre-back throughout his career and he is good enough to earn a spot in our team. Spent most of last season on-loan at Fiorentina.

Left-Back – Maynor Figueroa

Not many great left-backs have been released over the Summer (sorry Maynor), but you are good enough to get into our team as our left-back. Released by relegated Hull City.

Right-Midfield – Shaun Wright-Phillips

I mean he hasn’t kicked a football in yonks but I’m sure he’s still capable of playing. Queens Park Rangers will be delighted to get SWP off their books, mainly down to his massive wage rather than his actual ability. I believe he appeared twice this season for The Rs.

Centre-Midfield – Joey Barton

Another QPR player and another one stealing a ÂŁ75k-a-week wage from The Rs. If Barton was as good as he made out, he wouldn’t be on this free agents list and he’d already have been snapped up. Welcome to the team Joey!

Centre-Midfield – Abou Diaby (Honoury Captain)

If anyone deserves captaincy, it’s this guy. Diaby could have been huge for Arsenal throughout his nine-year career there, but injuries plagued his time in North London and restricted his game-time. He had to make our team. Lets hope we can keep him fit.

Left-Midfield – Jonas Gutierrez (Vice-Captain)

What a story for Gutierrez. Beat cancer throughout the season and then scored the goal to keep Newcastle in the Premier League. Was sadly treated disgracefully by the club and is now looking for a new club.

Striker – Didier Drogba

What a coup this is for Free Agents XI. Announced he will be leaving Chelsea in order to get regular game-time and that’s exactly what he will get for us! Lets hope he doesn’t head off to China again……

Striker – Bobby Zamora

Anyone who has a chant about hitting Row Z deserves to be in the team. However, Zamora proved doubters wrong with his incredible lobbed goal against West Bromwich Albion earlier this season. Him and Didier will cause all kinds of issues.

So there is the team. Not bad eh?
