Manchester United defender Rafael has confirmed that he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer and is in talks with several clubs, says his agent.

The 25-year-old was a main member of Sire Alex Ferguson’s 2012/13 Premier League winning team, but has failed to impress new manager Louis van Gaal, with him starting just seven games last campaign.

The right-back’s time in Manchester is coming to an end after the Dutch boss signed right-back Matteo Darmian from Torino, just before the Brazilian was left out of United’s 27-man squad for the pre-season tour of America.

The Brazil international’s agent Cassiano Pereira has confirmed that Rafael will be on his way out of Old Trafford in this summer transfer window.

Pereira says Rafael is looking to move abroad, he said: “His contract expires in June 2016 and the coach van Gaal, said he isn’t counting on him, so the player wants to leave and we are talking with more than one club about this.

“Roma would be a more than welcome destination. We would be ore than happy to talk to the capital club.

“Italy would be a great opportunity, particularly as he has a Portuguese passport.” he added.
