Groin injury rules winger out for six-to-eight weeks

Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is in a race to be fit in time for the European Championships after suffering a groin injury against Manchester United on Sunday.

The England international was substituted during the first-half of the Manchester Derby, and after further tests and scans, it’s now been revealed that he will be sidelined for around six-to-eight weeks.

If Sterling is to miss two months, it means he will return after the Premier League has been completed, and will then face a challenge to be fit in time for the Euros in France.

England will continue to monitor Sterling’s recovery during that time, but it leaves Roy Hodgson with a potential selection headache.

Hodgson has to initially name his Euro squad on the 12th May, but then has until the end of that month to change his mind.
