The forward has lit up the Premier League this year

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is confident that the club will keep hold of Jamie Vardy.

Chelsea and Man United have both expressed an interest in the striker after his superb start to the season and they were both contemplating future bids for him.

Reports were also suggesting that he could very well leave the Foxes if the club finishes outside the top four at the end of the campaign.

However, Claudio Ranieri is confident that no matter what happens, the 14-goal striker will remain a Leicester player. He said: “I think that he is a smart guy. He knows that this season we have to avoid relegation. That’s our first target.

“Then, obviously, the more we do the more chances there are for him to stay. But he also knows that here he is like a king – everybody loves him. If you join another team instead, he might play one game but not the following one, so you may have regrets.

“He will think about what he wants to do because Leicester are destined to grow and to reach the top level in the Premier League.”

Leicester have of course taken everyone by surprise this year, with many tipping them for the drop. Instead, they have stormed to the top end of the Premier League table – thanks in no small part to the goals of Jamie Vardy – and they are currently sat in second place.
