The Spanish side are reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno

Real Madrid are planning a move for Leno in case they fail to sign Manchester United’s David De Gea.

Talks are thought to be ongoing regarding a summer move for De Gea, who turned down a £200,000-a-week contract at United in order to try and force through a move.

However, Spanish newspaper Marca believes the La Liga giants have had to consider other options after failing to come to an agreement over a transfer fee for the Spain international.

Should the Spaniard opt against a move to the Bernabeu Bayer Leverkusen’s Leno is believed to be their next target.

The Germany-U21 international made his professional debut in 2011 and has already made over 150 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

De Gea saga

Leno is their no.1 keeper and Leverkusen are reluctant to let him leave but the lure of Madrid may be too much, especially if they don’t sign De Gea soon.

The United goalkeeper has made clear he will not be understudy to anyone next season, even fellow Spain team-mate Iker Casillas.

And, Casillas has no plans to give up his place in the starting XI anytime soon so Real will have a goalkeeping dilemma whoever they sign.

Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi is also rumoured to be heading to Real Madrid – coach Rafael Benitez has reportedly idenitified the Argentina international as a possible successor to Pepe.
