The Argentine is being considered as the long-term replacement for current Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid have made Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino their number one target to potentially replace Zinedine Zidane next summer.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is ruthlessly looking to ensure the Spanish giants maintain their position as a leading force in La Liga, and despite Zidane guiding his the club to Champions League glory this year, they are eyeing a long-term change.

Pochettino, who Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to replace Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United this summer, has quickly earned himself recognition from one of football’s leading powers. And Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is well aware of the battle to keep the Argentine at White Hart Lane.

The Argentine has turned Spurs into Premier League title contenders and managed to get the best from a young crop of players, while also promoting players through the club’s youth ranks.

And Real believe the former Southampton boss is the right man to guide Real in the long term, and return them to being a dominant force in La Liga.

Real Madrid have not won the league since 2012, with bitter rivals Barcelona and neighbours Atletico Madrid taking the titles in that time.

Pochettino only signed a new five-year contract only last summer, and has also been named as a potential candidate for England job. But Real are ready to pursue the Spurs boss next summer, if Real, again, fail in their challenge for the title.

However, things are currently looking good for Los Blancos, who currently sit top of La Liga – two points points clear of Barcelona.
