Real Madrid win race for Toni Kroos

Real Madrid have beaten both Chelsea and Manchester United to the signature of Toni Kroos.

The German international, currently on duty for his national team in Brazil at the World Cup, will move to the Bernabau after the tournament is over. The midfielder was tipped to leave the Allianz right at the beginning of the summer when he rejected a new contract for Pep Guardiola’s side. The fee that has been agreed for the player is somewhere in the region of €25million, converting to just under ÂŁ20million.

Manchester United and Chelsea are the losers in the deal, as, with Kroos just having one year left on his Bayern contract, they were hoping to sign the German on a free in 2015. Real Madrid have pounced fast out of nowhere to hijack the deal, and now the talented playmaker will be playing his football in Spain next season.

Spanish media ‘Marca’ have even claimed that Bayern offered Kroos a last minute deal to stay in Germany, a deal that was turned down in order to make the move happen.

His agent Volker Struth told them, “Toni isn’t going to sign a new deal and it’s not about money.”

It is thought that Kroos felt unappreciated at Bayern, and with players like Thaigo and Robert Lewandowski joining the club, his desire for an exit increased.
