A major mistake meant the deal collapsed
Liverpool were really close to signing Tottenham star Dele Alli before he moved to White Hart Lane, but a fatal mistake meant the deal collapsed.
At the time, Alli was still a shining prospect at League 1 MK Dons, and Liverpool were incredible close to completing the deal for a player who is now playing incredible well at Tottenham.
That’s according to Tony Evans, former football editor at The Times and lifelong Liverpool fan, who debunked the theory that they passed on Alli because Brendan Rodgers opted to pursue a deal for James Milner, by revealing that it was an attempt to lower wages that really saw the deal collapse.
They tried to knock down fee and wages after been agreed. Small amounts comparatively

Alli obviously went to Spurs in the end and now sits 3 places above Liverpool in the league. The rest has been history for the youngster.
