Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would pay to watch West Ham United starlet Ravel Morrison train, and the Englishman has also revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson labelled him as ‘the best 14-year-old he has ever seen’.

The former-United star left the club due to his behaviour off the field, but he is now setting the Premier League alight with The Hammers and has scored two very special individual goals so far this season, one with club and one for country.

The 20-year-old was playing last night for England’s U-21s against Finland and after the game, Rio Ferdinand was asked about how good the youngster was, to which he replied with the highest praise.

‘I would pay to watch him train let alone play in a match,’ said the 35-year-old who first made his name at Upton Park.

‘Ever since the first day I saw him, my old boss (Sir Alex Ferguson) said ‘have a look at this boy’. He was taking the mick out of everyone on the pitch when he was about 14.

‘The manager thought he was the best player he had seen at that age.

‘He trained with the first team at about 16 and Darren Fletcher said to me ‘he runs with the ball, he just runs with it and he’s almost looking at me while he’s running with the ball, and waiting for me to make a move and then he reacts’.

‘The top players can do that, they react to a defender’s movements.’
