Roberto Martinez admits he shares Everton fans’ frustrations

After what can only be described as a horrendous season for Everton FC, Manager Roberto Martinez has expressed that he is just as disappointed as the fans.

Despite this, the Spaniard insists he will not be overcome by any external pressure and says he is his own biggest critic, as he tries to deal with such a monumental disaster of a season.

The Spanish coach has been the subject of some intense criticism from his own supporters in recent weeks, with banners calling for his head unfurled at Watford last weekend.

And Martinez was quoted saying: “I can understand the frustration, I can accept a fair amount of passion – I have no problems with the passion the fans show towards the team because that is the strength we have as a club.

“I want to know what the fans feel and I always respect the fact that the fans have a genuine interest in the football club.

“I share the disappointment the fans have, we will never look away from the fans’ opinion, and if we have a chance to share their views, then as a manager I’ve always looked to do that.”

Martinez does argue however, that the run of poor performances is not down to a managerial blunder, but more down to the young set of players that Everton possess simply finding their feet in the Premier League.

“We want to get better, we want to improve all the time, but at the same time we have to understand we have a young team who have been given huge responsibility in the side, and that can take time,” he explained.

Everton are currently not safe from relegation, as they sit in 14th place. However, they do have the quality to stay up. Fans will certainly hope that next season will be more exciting, especially with the newly found funds.
