Gerard Deulofeu scored a stunning equaliser against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, leading Martinez to explain he has plans to keep the Barcelona player long-term.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder`s strike to deny Arsenal all three points and extend Everton’s unbeaten run to eight games was his third goal in 13 games for the Toffees.

Deulofeu was one of five players aged 23 or under to feature for Everton against Arsene Wenger’s side and Martinez said after the match he feels he has the “perfect blend” of experience in his squad.

“He has come a long way,” Martinez said in his post-match press conference.

“You’ve got certain players with raw talent who can create from nothing with a special touch and he is one of them,”

“When he arrived in pre-season, I thought it would take him to around February to get used to his role as a team player and the physicality of the Premier League.

“He has surprised me and everyone that he is ready now and wants to help the team. He is incredibly arrogant in the right way, has belief in himself and his finish against Arsenal was exactly what he deserved.”

Martinez added: “We have an agreement that it could be extended an extra year as long as the parent club do not need the player.”

The attacking midfielder, also helped Spain’s Under-19s become European champions in 2012 and was described as a “diamond of Spanish football” by Martinez upon his arrival at Goodison Park.
