Brendan Rodgers is reportedly lining up a move for the QPR striker

Liverpool are interested in signing Austin, but he is not a priority target, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The 25-year-old scored 18 goals last season but was still unable to stop his side from being relegated back to the Championship.

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren appeared to be favourite to land Austin last week, according to Express Sport, but now Liverpool have declared an interest.

Burnley striker, Danny Ings, has already sealed a move to Liverpool this week and will join up with Brendan Rodgers’ side on July 1 after a fee has been agreed.

Chelsea interest

Austin, who previously worked as a bricklayer, is also attracting interest from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who was reportedly impressed during their matches.

Mourinho is searching for another striker to provide competition for Loic Remy and Diego Costa, after Didier Drogba announced he would be leaving Stamford Bridge for the second time.

The Ivorian recently admitted he would like a move to a club which will provide him with more first-team opportunities.

At 37 years of age, Drogba was also accepting of the talent which is present in the Chelsea academy and that he needs to move aside and give them a chance.
