The defender was reportedly set to be used in a swap deal to sign Jose Fonte

Marcos Rojo wants to stay at Man United and fight for a place in the side.

According to reports over the last few days, the Red Devils increasing interest in Jose Fonte has led to them considering offering Southampton Rojo and some cash in a bid to sign the Portugal international.

Fonte has become one of United’s next big targets to bring to the club and Mourinho is keen to bring him to the squad in any way he can and believed a swap deal could seal his signature.

However, new reports today have emerged claiming that Rojo is unaware of any swap deal involving himself and that he wouldn’t want to leave the club anyway.

Fallen down the pecking order

The 26-year old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with Daley Blind, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly all above him in the bid for a first-team place. But, rather than leave the club to play more first-team football, he is eager to stay at United and battle for a place.

He made just 16 appearances for the Red Devils last season and although he didn’t impress massively, he wasn’t bad either. He showed he is a capable passer of the ball and can do a job defensively.

However, as previously mentioned, there are several others who are more likely to get a look in over him but it hasn’t stopped the Argentine from wanting to stay and try and make his way into the first-team picture.
