Southampton boss has asked Guus Hiddink to recommend him

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has asked his countryman Guus Hiddink to recommend him to the Chelsea board for the permanent managerial position.

The Blues are set to appoint a new permanent boss at the end of the season, once interim-manager Hiddink has seen out the remainder of the campaign, and Koeman wants his countryman to help him out.

Koeman has been open about his desires to manage at the highest level, and speaking about the Stamford Bridge role, he admitted that a recommendation from Hiddink would go a long way with the Chelsea board.

Koeman Wants Helping Hand

As it stands, Massimiliano Allegri of Juventus is believed to be favourite for the job, but Koeman wants his fellow-Dutchman to give him a helping hand.

Koeman said: “If Guus puts a good word in for me, that would be a big influence.”

The 52-year-old has a very successful history in management, winning trophies in Ajax and Spain, and he also won several plaudits for his revamped Southampton side last season.

Return To Top Level

Despite enjoying his time at St Mary’s, Koeman has admitted he wants a return to the top level of management.

“It is certainly something that I always have at the back of my mind.

“I always want to achieve the highest possible level. That has happened in Holland and that’s what I’d really like to achieve abroad.”
