Samir Nasri thriving on competition for places

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has admitted that competition for places in the starting line-up will only bring the best out of him as he prepares himself for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The former-Arsenal man had to settle for a substitute appearance on Monday night against Newcastle United, but after coming on from the bench, he impressed and even bagged himself a goal during the 4-0 thumping.

After arriving to City from Malaga, Manuel Pellegrini was desperate to land new midfielders and after signing Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and even Stevan Jovetic, who can be used as a winger, the City squad now looks packed with talent, but Nasri believes it will only bring out the best in him.

“The competition for places at City doesn’t frighten me, it makes me better,” he told The Sun.

“I’m full of desire. I want to go to the World Cup and show everyone the real Samir Nasri.

“I’ve trained with this in mind. I’m much sharper and I feel better.

“I have matured a great deal. I lost my way a bit last season, but I have found myself once again.”
