New Schalke manager Markus Weinzierl wants to convince the winger to stay
Markus Weinzierl has spoken out about Leroy Sane, claiming the winger should stay at Schalke.
The 20-year old is a target for Man City, who have been keeping a close eye on him over the last few weeks and months. New City boss Pep Guardiola has made signing a winger one of his top priorities this summer and he has identified Sane as the ideal signing for that position.
The player himself seems uncertain of his future – he hasn’t yet told current club Schalke what his plans are and whether he intends to stay, which has worried the Bundesliga side, who fear they could lose him this summer.
However, after unveiling new manager Weinzierl yesterday, the new boss was quick to claim he didn’t want to lose one of his star players and it looks like Man City could now face a fight in their attempts to try and sign the German.
Versatile Player
Despite not scoring too many goals last year, Sane massively impressed in the Bundesliga and also in the Europa League. His dribbling down the flanks cause endless amounts of trouble for the opposition and many times it was his dribbling which led to a goal for his side, both directly and indirectly from him.
The 20-year old is also very versatile and although playing most of his football down the right, he also played on the left, down the centre as a CAM and even as a forward last season, picking up nine goals and seven assists in all competitions along the way.
Man City now are hopeful they can lure him to England and get him to do the same for them but after the words of the new Schalke manager, it appears it may have become a lot tougher for them to get their man.
