Didier Drogba is being targeted by Seattle Sounders and the New York Red Bulls over a switch to Major League Soccer from Galatasaray this summer.

Drogba, who will face his former club Chelsea for the first time since he left the club in 2012 in the Champions League next week, is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Ivory Coast international turns 36 next month and is still performing impressively for the Turkish club, having scored eight goals in 26 appearances this season.

Galatasaray are still debating whether to offer him an extension, which has given Seattle and New York hope that they can lure him across the Atlantic. Jermain Defoe is the latest big-name player to make the switch and will join Toronto from Tottenham at the end of the month.

Arsenal’s record goalscorer Thierry Henry has been at the New York Red Bulls since 2010.

Seattle have reportedly already offered Drogba, who scored 157 goals for Chelsea in eight years as well as the decisive spot-kick to win the Champions League two years ago, a lucrative contract to join them.

He could be joined in the MLS by former Chelsea team-mates Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, who are both out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
