Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia has admitted that he turned down advances from three Premier League clubs this summer by re-joining CSKA Moscow on loan.

The forward joined AS Roma last summer, however was unable to settle in the Italian league which is when the trio of English top flight clubs showed an interest in bringing Doumbia to the Premier League.

However, the 27-year-old was keen on a move ‘back home’, which has allowed him to love football again following a difficult stint in Serie A last term.

Premier League Rejection

“In Rome I was not happy and I did not enjoy my football,” Doumbia told Africa Top Sports. “From the very first day I never felt comfortable.

“I needed to start over and so I thought why not go back ‘home’ [to CSKA]. I started really well and I hope to keep it up.

“I had other offers from England but in the end I chose to go back to Russia, as there was the Champions League and I knew I would feel most comfortable at CSKA.

“During my time with the Giallorossi, I never enjoyed playing. At CSKA, I am finding that joy again.

“Of course I am still owned by Roma, but I would not want to go back.

“Obviously there are financial factors to consider but what matters is that I enjoy my football.”
