Striker close to finalising loan deal

AS Roma striker Seydou Doumbia is currently undergoing a medical at Premier League side Newcastle United ahead of a potential loan-deal.

The 28-year-old has been on the radar of a couple Premier League sides, including Arsenal, but according to Sky Sports News, it’s the Magpies that have won the race.

Doumbia is in England having a medical with Newcastle ahead of a six-month loan deal until the end of the season.

Strikers Needed

Steve McClaren is desperate to bring in a new striker to add goalscoring options to his squad, and with Aleksandr Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse failing to set the world alight at St James’ Park, Doumbia could be the man to fire Newcastle up the table.

The manager admitted earlier in the window that a striker is what the club needs, and so far they’ve also been linked with West Brom‘s Saido Berahino and Swansea City‘s Bafetimbi Gomis.

McClaren said: “I think I’ve said enough to say that we do need more goals and that we’re working behind the scenes to address that.”

Doumbia would be the third new face at Newcastle this month, following Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend.
