The north London side made a £22.5m plus variables offer last week but Valencia held tight for the asking price as the two sides waited for the player to return from holiday yesterday morning.

Spurs then agreed to pay the £26m release clause, allowing the 28-year-old Spain international to make the long-awaited move to White Hart Lane.

Spanish radio station, Cadena SER reported that Spurs technical director Franco Baldini completed the move with Valencia president, Amadeo Salvo, by telephone on Saturday evening.

Valencia will receive £13 million upfront before the 3rd August deadline [for tax reasons] and will be paid the remainder at a later stage.

Soldado did not participate in Valencia’s friendly against AC Milan, but sat in the stands as the two clubs finalised his transfer.

Soldado is expected to arrive in London tomorrow and undergo a medical before joining the team when they return from their pre-season summer tour of Asia.
