AC Milan have clinched an agreement with the Spanish midfielder, who has entered the final year of his contract at Liverpool.
But Milan are yet to decide whether to launch a cut-price bid for the 20-year-old in the new year or wait until his contract expires next summer.
If Milan choose to delay the signing of Suso until the end of the season, the earliest stage he can sign a pre-contractual agreement would be in January.
Earlier this summer, Liverpool rejected Milan’s advances to take the Spain U-21 international on a season-long loan.
Brendan Rodgers was hoping to cash-in on Suso, who spent last season on-loan La Liga outfit Almeria, having deemed him surplus to requirements at Anfield.
But they now face the real prospect of losing the youngster on a free transfer in 12 months time and could be willing to listen to any offers from Milan in January.
Suso joined Liverpool in 2010, aged 17, from Cadiz and progressed through the club’s youth ranks before making his first-team debut in the Europa League victory against Swiss side Young Boys in 2012.
