Chelsea star remains coy on long-term future

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has refused to commit his long-term future to the Premier League champions, admitting anything can happen in the future.

The Belgium international had his breakthrough season in England during the 2014/2015 campaign, after spending three years out on loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

Breakthrough at Chelsea

Courtois was told by Jose Mourinho at the start of the season that he would be the club’s new number-one, taking Petr Cech‘s place and ending his long-term stay as the club’s goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old featured in nearly every game, and only missed out on the odd few throughout the title-winning campaign, but his stellar performances have caught the eye of potential buyers.

Spanish Interest

Real Madrid are currently in the market for a new ‘keeper and despite David De Gea from Manchester United being their number-one target, they are also showing interest in Courtois.

The Belgium spent three years in Spain with Real‘s rivals Atletico, but he could be interested in a return to the country in the future and he has refused to rule anything out.

Speaking in an interview, Courtois admitted that although he loves Chelsea, anything can happen in football.

Courtois Refuses to Rule Out Move

“I cannot say what the future holds for me but Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Being here is great and I’m looking forward to winning a lot of trophies with this team,” the former Genk star told Goal.

“If it’s for 10 years then good, if it’s for less then maybe also.

“We never know what the future holds but hopefully for the moments and years that I’m here we can win as many trophies as possible.”

Chelsea are expected to be buying another goalkeeper over the Summer, with Cech close to the exit door.
