The Belgian keeper has been on loan from Chelsea for two and a half years but with the competition fierce in London, it is understood an agreement has been made between the two clubs.

Courtois was the star of the show in Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final; Lionel Messi hasn’t been able to score past the goalkeeper in five games

Barca manager Gerardo Martino admitted that Courtois looked like ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’, while Diego Simeone said the youngster will get better and better.

‘He has improved a lot in the two and half years that he has been with us,’ the Atleti coach told reporters.

‘He needs to keep getting better but it is clear that he is destined for big things.’

Courtois has admitted in the past that he sees his long term future in the Premier League with Jose Mourinho’s side, though Petr Cech is standing in his way for the time being.

The Czech international is still just 31-years-old and shows no sign of a decline, but it is thought that Courtois will sign a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2019.
