Gunners legend voices his concerns

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has admitted that he’s fearful for Arsenal’s ability to attract top players in the future.

The Gunners look set to miss out on Champions League football for the first time since 1998 this season, but even their inclusion in that competition over the years hasn’t helped them attract the very best players they need to.

Henry, the Gunners’ all-time leading goalscorer, does not believe that offering European football is essential for clubs looking to buy the best. Just last summer, players such as N’Golo Kante and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all chose destinations other than Arsenal despite the clubs they chose not being involved in Europe’s elite competition.

And Henry believes that Arsenal are no longer attractive.

Jamie Vardy was one of the raft of names to turn down a move to Arsenal recently.

“Yes, wages come into it. It is a job after all and as a player you get what you can — like anyone in any walk of life.

“But competition for trophies is the key. If you are a director of football and you work for Arsenal, how do you attract a big player?”
