Roberto Soldado could be close to joining the La Liga club, according to reports

A Spurs fan spotted the 30-year-old at the airport this morning sparking speculation of a move.

The Tottenham supporter, who had his picture taken with Soldado, later posted on social media that the former Valencia striker told him he was joining Villarreal.

Earlier reports had linked Europa League winners, Sevilla, with an £11million move but Villarreal have now emerged as frontrunners for Soldado’s services.

The Spaniard, who scored one goal in 24 appearances last season, was pictured at London Gatwick Airport this morning – he is believed to have just returned from Spain.

The news of Soldado’s departure appeared to be confirmed by Tottenham team-mate Erik Lamela who initially sent a tweet offering his best wishes, before swiftly removing the comments.

Callejon IN Soldado OUT

Napoli forward Jose Callejon is rumoured to be a possible replacement for Soldado, with reports in Italy claiming Spurs are favourites to sign the 28-year-old.

The former Real Madrid attacker scored 11 goals in 38 games last season and is reportedly ready to prove himself in the Premier League.

The Spain international, joined the Serie A club back in July 2013 – he made half of his appearances from the bench during the 2012-13 season at Madrid.

However, The Naples club are reluctant to sell Callejon and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pocchettino has been warned only a big-money offer would tempt the Stadio San Paolo club.
