The striker is out of favour at Stamford Bridge

Newcastle United and Leicester City are hot on their heels after Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink insisted Loic Remy could leave the club on loan.

The France international has only starting one Premier League game this term and looks set for the Blues’ exit door before the end of the January transfer window.

Remy is currently sidelined due to a calf injury, but it is believed that said injury would not affect any potential deal for the centre forward.

Table-toppers Leicester are rumoured to be interested in the 29-year old, with their manager Claudio Ranieri publicly confirming his desire to bring in a striker.

However, Newcastle are the favourites to sign Remy, as he previously spent a season on loan at St. James’ Park during the 2013/14 campaign.

‘We’ll see what happens’

When speaking in his press conference this morning, Hiddink said: “Remy has a slight calf injury right now. We’ll see what happens in the upcoming hours, but I don’t think being injured now has any influence on whether he stays or goes.”

The departure of Remy would leave Diego Costa and loanee Radamel Falcao as the only senior strikers at Hiddink’s disposal, but a loan contract for Corinthians’ Alexandre Pato could be tied up before Monday’s deadline.

“It’s not a gamble, coming on loan makes it possible to have a good view on him, whether he is able to adapt to the high demands of the club and the league,” said the stand-in gaffer.

“He is in London. He is now in the process of bureaucratic paperwork.”
