Arsenal duo limp out of League Cup defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is facing an injury crisis ahead of key fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League, following Tuesday’s League Cup exit.

The Gunners boss lost both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during their 3-0 League Cup defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday, and both are set to miss the next three games.

Wenger’s managerial nous will be tested in the next few fixtures, as they look to build on their second place position in the league when they head to Swansea City at the weekend.

Arsenal then head to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, following their late 2-0 victory over the Germans at the Emirates, before hosting north London rivals Tottenham.

Testing times for Wenger

It is a testing time for the Frenchman, who is also without Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere, David Ospina and Danny Welbeck.

“We are short now with the injuries.” Wenger admitted after their defeat against Wednesday. “I have to manage the workload of the players and at the end of the day I still think I maybe brought too many experienced players here.”

However, despite his discontent with his decision to play regular first team players, the Gunners were still undone by their Championship opponents.

Wenger will be hoping Roy Hodgson doesn’t call up his newly-injured duo for England’s friendlies at home to France and away to Spain, when they are set to return from injury.
